When you Crit with an attack or spell, you do 50% extra damage to the target. You start out with just a few % Crit Chance depending on your class.

Crit Chance comes in two flavours - Physical and Magical. Physical gives your Physical attacks additional Crit Chance and Magical gives your Magic attacks and spells additional Crit Chance.

If you have 10% Crit Chance, it means there is a 10% chance that your attacks against another target of the SAME level will be a Crit. If the target is a higher level, the chance is reduced, the bigger the level difference, the less chance you will have to Crit.

Protection is the counter to Crit and you also start out with a few % Protection depending on your class. Protection also comes in two flavours, Physical and Magical.

If you have 10% Physical Protection, it does NOT mean you have a 10% chance to avoid getting a Crit, it means your 10% Physical Protection will cancel out the attacker's 10% Physical Crit.

If the attacker has 50% Physical Crit, you would need at least 50% Physical Protection to avoid being Crit by it's attacks.

Some player and pet skills are a little more complicated because they sometimes have an additional built in chance to Crit, so while the player might have 50% Physical Crit, the skill itself might have an additional 30% Crit meaning you would actually need 80% Protection to guarantee it not critting you.

Crit & Protection need a rework - been thinking about it for a while now. It's way too easy to gain massive amounts of crit at the moment, without even sacrificing much in the way of other stats, and ofc too difficult to obtain enough Protection to counter it.

I haven't decided exactly how it will be changed just yet but I'm thinking:

1.For simplicity sake go pure percentage based for both, so 1% Crit on an item or buff will actually mean 1% Crit, and stop using Crit+/Protection+ entirely.
    2. Cap them both at 100%, so if you manage to obtain 100% Protection you will basically be crit immune.
    3. Remove Crit/Protection gain from the base stats (Strength/Intellect/All Stats), so it's only obtainable from the Physical Crit%, Magic Crit%, Physical Protection% and Magic Protection% stats.

I can't say exactly when this will happen - I need to think about it some more and decide exactly how it will be done and then rework all items/buffs etc.

When you crit you do 150% damage, so 50% more than a normal attack. Crit Damage stat increases that - so an additional 10% of Crit Damage stat will make your crits do 160%. It's basically pure additional damage whenever you crit.

I haven't added it to many items or made cards or potions/foods that give it because at the moment it's far too easy to get Crit Rating - I rarely ever see a normal hit anymore, it's always crit except for a few level 100 bosses and players with really high Crit Protection from BF gear. When that is corrected I will introduce much more Crit Damage stat and probably cap it at 200-250%.

is there a cap on phys/mag protection? or on crit? like the cap with hit / eva.

the reason i ask is that with my tank full bf gear (largest source of protection on game).
i still get crit dmg from my wiz every single hit.

i have gone through all the different gears accessories etc trying to increase my protection to highest possible but it is never enough to outdo my wiz crit.

doesnt this make even having the stat for protection kind of useless to persue?
i know it may be enough to negate crit from a few lvl 85's in thier gear but for the most part any class with decent gear will crit no matter.

and doesnt this make the bf gears stats useless as well?
when trying to focus on protection in gears you have to almost always sacrifce something in return and if the sacrifice is futile then why even make it.

it works like evasion - hit chance, but instead of avoiding a hit, you avoid the extra 50% damage
