Myrmidon mains i summon you

taking a look at the skill tree i have some questions and doubts, specially looking the soul blader skills.
im lv70 so im speaking about what i see, not what i tested

Tiger stance is our source of damage: 20% incrased damage, but we only have 3 skills to use:
Tyrant strike 2 (+1500 damage +200 crit)
Penetrating Edge 3 (+40% damage +50% boss damage)
Death grasp 2 (+20% damage 50% ignore defense, skill paralysis, silence)

ok, the damage arent that great but we cool... so far our skill rotation is really poor, what about the other skills?
to use some of the most useful skills like Shatter (-10k defense) and Rising Stream Strike (3s Stun) we have to first put on the dragon stance

say this, i've talked with a main myrmidon. he told me that switching stances has animation cast, this means that it doesnt matter how much atk speed we have, we'll experience delay between attacks, unless we dont switch stances, which would be lame.

Dragon stance decrases our damage by 20%
if we have 10000 damage, we have 12000 with tiger on and 8000 with dragon on.

Hemorrage 2 rank 3 deals 20% bonus damage, this means that using this skills is no difference between an autoattack with no stance activated (dragon -20%, skill +20%)

and plus that we have phoenix stance that seems only useful in PVE (not sure)

the question is
is myrmidon really viable? i dont want the answer "hurr durr of course otherwise it wouldnt exist" yea but everybody picks soul blader nowadays and i seem to notice why that happens
im currently leveling it up, i would like to use him in battlefield and dungeons as well so i dont want to hit 85 and feel disapointed

thanks

    Just my view of Myrmidon.

The Barbarian was one of the most underused classes before I made the 3rd jobs so I wanted it's next job to be a bit different. It's not a straightforward class like most of the others in that it's skills are very situational and far removed from what you are used to in Iris.
Tiger Stance is meant to be an extension of the the existing 1st/2nd job skills, boosting them with the additional attack damage and speed you get from this stance and it's buff. It's not meant for only those 3 upgraded skills that you get in it's tree. It was either this, or just end up adding upgraded versions of the previous skills and adding some additional damage to them, which would leave no room for the other interesting stuff in this job.

Dragon stance was designed to allow you to offtank with it's boost to defense, but getting all that free defense comes at a cost of lower damage. I didn't want the class to step on the tanking classes toes so it had to come at a cost. However, Shatter is an amazing skill and spammable too. Actually, in a lot of situations, it can be better to use Dragon Stance and spam shatter since it more than makes up for the loss in attack. You do lose out on the 50% bonus damage to bosses from Penetrating Edge 3 though but you still get to use Penetrating Edge 2 from the 2nd job which now gives Armor Penetration of 70% at max rank. It's also a good stance to switch into against other melee classes, reducing their defense and taking it for yourself. And of course you still get to use all your 1st/2nd job skills whilst in Dragon Stance.

Phoenix Stance is awesome for PvE but not designed for PvP at all really, but I'm sure some players find it useful in certain situations, especially since I buffed it quite heavily a few updates ago - quickly switching into Phoenix to use the shield if you don't have a Niria at hand can be a lifesaver though. With the right itemisation it's quite powerful against melee who tend to have much lower magic defense. Try to have a secondary weapon that you can switch to, enhanced with magic attack and use Penetrating Edge 2 from the 2nd job at every opportunity for the Armor Penetration because it affects magic defense too. Partying with a Wizard or Sorc will really boost your Phoenix damage :)

It's my favourite class and I tend to play in Dragon Stance but with the buff from Tiger in most single target situations like bosses and switch to Phoenix for everything else.

Soul Blader is a better choice for PvP for sure, but for an all round class I would stick with Myrmidon myself, but I am biased :)

I personally think Myrm is an annoying to play class as well as annoying to get against. Why?

    PvE:

    Pros:
    - Ability to be more active in term of switch type of dmg to deal to mobs/bosses (Some have higher magic def and some have higher physic def). Good against the new Glaceon final phrase tho since it constantly switching between magic abs and physic abs lol.
    - Ability to be more active in term of surviving and killing. Higher % dmg boost (both Magic 30% and Physic 20%), atsp boost 15%, HP abs 15% with Barb and Dragon stand buff, and high % def buff.
    - High HP abs (that is a very good Pros in term of PvE because it unlocks your ability to become immortal blood thirst vampire). 6% Bar buff, 9% Dragon Stand GT weapon 8%, 1% RT, and etc.... from whatever acces you use. A minimum of 24% is available for you anytime anywhere. For every 20k dmg you deal and I am sure you will get at least 20k dmg with decent carded Chain Quest 85 + GT weapon you will heal yourself ~5000 HP and with boss dmg + food etc ... I can assure you can deal at least 50~70k dmg on bosses which will heal at least 12.5k~17.5k per skill. There goes the immortal PvE Myrm.

    Cons
    - The 50% boss dmg buff only limited to Tiger stand make it harder to use in solo dungeon (such as Circus for Pot and Stat). People might argue with just use Tiger stand and go kill it but seriously tho, it is boring just using 1 stand for the whole dungeon because its annoying to keep switching every 5~7sec to get 50% boss dmg for boss. At least for me it is and I dont really know about others lol.
    - You will have to continuously switching between Tiger -> Dragon if you want HP abs and -def for extra dmg, or Tiger -> Phoenix for magic dmg and then Tiger again for 50% boss dmg and that will make Myrm become much inefficient in PvE. In higher tie dungeon such as Golden Temple, those disadvantages will definitely get you kill before you can even deal a decent amount of dmg.
    - The switching also reduce the dmg output due to the fact that it takes time to switch between stands (couple second delay)
    - I found it is just annoying to do all of the extra work for it lol.

    PvP:

    Pros:
    - High adaptability to situation with 2 types of dmg that can allow Myrm to constantly pushing enemy to the edge (injector is useless lol)
    - High survivability with high % def from Dragon stand, 1 skill with 10k def + 50% protection (I think its 50% but not sure) and 85% reflection (even for a short amount of time but it packs a punch if you go against 2h-class and can send them straight back to base lol)
    - Great to use 1vs1
    - Great crowd controller (with Phoenix tree skills)
    - The 3rd jobs is quite OP allow Myrm to stand-out against other classes and they dont have to gamble with 70% ITD from 2nd job in order to effectively PvP (High dmg against any classes whether it is magic side or physic side)

    Cons:
    - In group PvP, switching stand reduce the efficiency of Myrm (since it come with 1,2 second delay for each stand). You dont have much time in group pvp to do that extra chore since sometime it only require 5~6 second to kill anyone nowaday (especially if the opposite team has Crus + Sin with almost 1hko dot)

    General Cons:
    - Average stats since you do need to maintain both side of Myrm to build a decent magic/physic dmg dealer (actually a lot of extra work to do it which is annoying since you were mainly physic class to start with and CQ armor produce a lot of raw dmg not stat base dmg)
    - % dmg increase (costume or weapon enhance property) only effect stat base dmg (as far as I know so maybe Sedy can confirm this if you want to check)
    - Limited acces to use because the highest Acces allow you to boost both physic/magic property right now is Lisk I acces. High end items like Nazuma only boost either 1 (crit/hit) but still have all dmg.

    http://noscrubs.net/index.php?option=com_fabrik&view=details&formid=18&rowid=10060&Itemid=700 Nazuma Loot Drop
(Great for using if you decide to focus for 1 type of dmg)

http://noscrubs.net/index.php?option=com_fabrik&view=details&formid=18&rowid=20032&Itemid=700 Rhinestone (Lisk I) Loot Drop
http://noscrubs.net/index.php?option=com_fabrik&view=details&formid=18&rowid=20031&Itemid=700 Crystalisk (Lisk I) Loot Drop
(Great if you want to balance both type)

Phoenix Stance is designed for PvP if I might say haha and also Myrm might be a better choice for group PvP to be honest since it is better team player compare to SB.

ok i just hitted 82 and my thought so far are these:

-is a great pve class. muchk tanki, very life steal, wow
-the stance-switching is indeed really annoying, but you learn to deal with it
-it sucks at pvp, its really easy to fail Shatter (main source of damage). if so, you become a punchbag
    -fun to play
-the phoenix instance useless so far (it will prolly reamin that way)

Ok now i love this class lol

SEDY I have to ask you something
please fix the skill charge, it gets stuck 90% of the times, i dont even cast it anymore since it makes me die even more easily
maybe remove the animation like the shiftling blow from the adventurer? dunno
but atm the skill is pointless, and i would love to have some mechanic to get closer to the scout and sorcerer that just pushed me to the another continent

    thank you

The problem with the charge skills isn't the animation, it's a number of other things really.
The 1st problem is lag. Because charge skills when activated need to check your position (x and y coordinates) on the server and also the target's position on the server, if either you or the target is lagging, the charge will fail. The reason for that is the client checks constantly with the server to report your location and vice versa, and whenever this become out of sync due to lag, you get thrown back to the last "in sync" location. That's why you get the rubber-banding effect when you lag.

The 2nd problem is speed. Because some players have such high movement speed, by the time you reach their coordinates, they have moved and the server reports their new coordinates which no longer match where they were before and so the server throws you back to your original coordinates, again causing the rubber-banding effect on your character.

For me, because I very rarely lag on the live server, even though I am in a completely different continent, I rarely if ever have a problem with charge skills on monsters or stationary player targets, but I do see it happen on players running away when they have high movement speed or using a mount.

I'm still not certain how go about fixing this issue, other than relaxing the checks on location, but I believe that would probably cause much more problems for all skills, not just charges. I will experiment with a couple of things relating to the speed you have when using a charge skill, which might help with moving targets.

didnt know about the pentrating edge 2
i tend to use phoenix stance A LOT in pvp, since i dont have enough damage yet, i try to stun lock people (black draft->rising stream-->tempest thorns and repeat) also Blaze is a great debuff for your magic teammates
i love to be useful without having to deal tons of damage

I would say 200ms is fine, I usually get around 180ms. Do you have the problem on stationary monsters as well, or just players running around?

i used to have that problem with everything, specially when i tried to use it while running to a monster to do quests more quickly, if i wanted it to work i had to stand still, wait a bit and then cast it. i reseted skills a while ago and never got it again. does crusader strike work the same way?
