Hey guys,

Somebody recently suggested I add some new facial expressions to the game and I think it's a great idea, so I need the help of the talented artists we have in our community.

If you didn't already know about expressions, they are the facial expressions of your character that change when you type certain words into chat.

http://noscrubs.net/images/iris/expressions/expressions_event.jpg

There are currently 5 expressions and they are slightly different for each race, Human, Elf and Hybrid, so you need to create your new expression for each race. The expression itself doesn't need to be different, but the colouring does.

I have attached a Photoshop PSD file with all 5 existing expressions for each of the 3 races. The layers are grouped by race. I have also included an example for the Hybrid race called Argggg. You will see it's basically the Sulk face with Cry mouth, and the eyebrows and eyes replaced with new ones.

As well as creating the texture, you need to think of the words that will trigger it, without using any of the existing words that you can see in the image above. You can use words or stuff like :), :/ etc. etc. You can have up to 10 words trigger for each expression.

For inspiration, just do a google search for "chibi expressions" :)

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS
1. You can create as many new expressions as you like.
2. You don't HAVE to create your expression for each of the 3 races, but it would be a shame to leave a race out. It's fine if they are exactly the same, but use the proper race templates in the PSD so you get the correct colouring and ear placement etc.
3. Submissions should be attached in a reply to this message in JPG format and also the Zipped PSD file.
4. A submission should have at least 1 trigger word, and 10 max.
5. There is no end date to this event - it will run for as long as people submit new expressions or until I decide to close it.
6. Not all submissions will make it into the game - they need to be of good enough quality and actually look correct ingame when applied to the character models.

PRIZE
The prize is having your work added to the game but I might think up some prizes if the submissions are quality :)

Can you elaborate on this? xD

So you can't change the expression? Only the colors of the eyes and mouth of those 5 expressions? What are the exclusions for coloring?

Each of the expressions, Cry for example, is slightly different depending on the race (Hybrid/Human/Elf), they have small differences - humans have straight thick white lines for the tears, hybrids have wavey thick white lines and elf has actual teardrops. I'm just saying that when you create your new expression they don't have to be different for each race like the existing ones are, but you still need to create 3 different versions because the colouring of each race's skin is different - Hybrids are much darker than the other two for example.

    Here is an example.
Note that the expression itself is mostly the same, same eyes and brow, and same mouth except for on the Hybrid version - the only real difference is the skintone and also the elf and human has a texture for the ears in the bottom right corner. Simply base your new expression on one of the existing expressions in the Photoshop file.

For this example, all I did was:
    1. Made a copy of the Sulk layer for each of the races to use as a base, and named it Argggg.
    2. Used the Healing Brush Tool to remove the eyebrows.
    3. Selected the mouth from the Cry layer and copy pasted it onto my new Argggg layer since I'm lazy to draw one.
    4. Created the new eyes and eyebrows (or copied from some other thing I had somewhere because I'm sux at drawing).
